Manchester United Seek Amorim To Replace Sacked Ten Hag
Manchester United fans have been having an unhappy time of late, but could things change when a new coach – which looks set to be Ruben Amorim – comes in to replace Erik Ten Hag?
The Dutchman was sacked in the wake of a controversial 2-1 defeat by West Ham United, a game his side could have won easily after spurning a host of first-half chances, before a hotly-disputed VAR decision gave the Hammers a penalty to win the game late on.
However, the sacking was never about one match, as the team sits 14th in the Premier League table, having finished eighth last year.
In Ten Hag’s favour had been the fact he won the League Cup in his first season and the FA Cup in his second, but with Ineos Sport taking over football operations last season and known to have spoken to other managers about the possibility of taking over at Old Trafford, many would argue the writing has been on the wall for some time.
However, sports shops in Manchester may soon be filled with United fans keen to get replica shirts to celebrate a resurgence in form – should Amorim be a success.
Ten Hag’s assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy, a prolific goal machine in his time at United, has taken temporary charge, but the club is not going down the road of allowing him to go on to take permanent charge in the way they once did with his former strike partner Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Instead, the club moved quickly to acquire the Sporting Lisbon boss, with an agreement to meet his release clause swiftly in place.
For all the doom and gloom at present, the new boss will have the advantage of being appointed by the new hierarchy and will still have a group of highly talented players to work with. It remains to be seen if this will lead to better performances and results than under Ten Hag, but if Amorim does take United back to the top, legendary status awaits.
