England Wins Qatar World Cup Opener

England has kicked off the Qatar World Cup 2022 tournament in style, winning its opening match 6-2.
Manager Gareth Southgate could certainly be proud of his team on Monday (November 21st) after they beat Iran in the Group B match.
Jude Bellingham scored the first goal 35 minutes into the game, before Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling got two more in before the end of the first half.
During the second half of the match, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish also scored, while Saka managed a second goal just one hour into the game.
Commenting on the win, Southgate said: “To win by that margin, to play as we did for the majority of the game, we’ve got to be really happy – that’s the way the players have prepared, they looked ready and they dealt with the game really well.”
He added that the team’s “pressing was really good, and our movement was really good”. However, he was critical of the side for conceding two goals to Iran.
The England manager added: “It’s a great start but we’re going to have to be better.”
England’s next match is on Friday against the US, before taking on Wales the following Tuesday.
It remains to be seen whether captain Harry Kane will play in the upcoming games as he has injured his right ankle. The striker will have a scan to determine the extent of the injury after he was forced to sit out of training as the team waits for the next match.
