Chelsea Football Club has broken records by spending £300 million in a single transfer window.

The previous record was held by Real Madrid in 2019 when it spent £278.3 million on new players. Following this was the £260 million splurge in summer 2022 by Chelsea again.

However, unhappy with the team it bought just a few months ago, the London football club signed Enzo Fernandez from Benfica for a cool £106.8 million.

It also brought in Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Noni Madueke, Andrey Santos, David Fofana and Malo Gusto.

Fernandez played in his first match for Chelsea on Saturday (February 4th), drawing nil-nil against rivals Fulham.

He tweeted his 164,000 followers: “Very happy with the group’s effort. It wasn’t he result we wanted but let’s keep working to be better.”

“Thank you to the fans for the reception and support last night. I am very happy for my debut in Stamford Bridge and to be a Blue,” the Portuguese player added.

While major football club Chelsea spent record sums to get the world’s best players, another team made headlines for different reasons.

Morecambe was bought by businessman Sarbjot Johal earlier this week, with this deal being unique due to the young age of the entrepreneurial buyer.

At just 20 years old, Johal beat Tyson Fury to become Morecambe’s official owner, having bought equity in the club in a deal approved by EFL, the Daily Mail reported.

Both sides will be busy getting their boys practising with cones and markers to prove the expensive investments were worth it.
